This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

As we approach the final 17 days of the school year, I continue to be inspired by our students who are diligently completing their end of the year assessments, including SOL. Their resilience and effort are commendable.

This week, we were delighted to host Dr. Reid, our division superintendent. During her visit, Dr. Reid had the opportunity to meet our student leaders and learn our vision statement, "Everyone belongs and loves to learn," in sign language, reflecting our commitment to inclusivity. She also enjoyed her time in Ms. Lane's Pre-K classroom and Ms. Rodriguez's CSS classroom.  She also learned about our nest (sensory room) and how it has supported our students' social-emotional development.

Looking ahead, we are excited for our upcoming End of the Year activities, including a family picnic and STEM Night next Tuesday. Please remember that STEM Night is NOT a drop off event and requires all students to be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Thank you all for your continued support and engagement. Let's make these last few weeks as enriching and enjoyable as possible!

Wishing you a relaxing and joyful weekend.

Warm regards,

KJ An,

Principal

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Greetings Eagle View Families,

I hope this message finds you well. As we wrap up Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week at EVES, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the incredible support our community showed towards our devoted staff. A special thank you goes out to our PTA for organizing a fantastic Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. The breakfast and the delightful surprise of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Truck brought joy to everyone.

Looking ahead, I am thrilled to remind you about our upcoming Family STEM Night on May 21, 2024. Originally planned for January, this rescheduled event promises an evening full of interactive STEM activities that both students and families will find engaging. It's a great opportunity to come together over science and create lasting memories.

To ensure the success of this event, we are in need of at least 18 volunteers to help out between 5:15 pm and 7:45 pm on May 21, 2024. Volunteering is a wonderful way to connect with our school community and support our students' learning.

Lastly, I want to express my gratitude for your ongoing support and participation in our school's journey. Together, we are truly making a positive impact on our children's lives.

Warm regards,

KJ An

Principal

We Need Volunteers for STEM Night on 5/20!

The PTA is sponsoring a Children’s Science Center Family STEM Night on May 21, 2024, in the EVES Gym (rescheduled from January due to bad weather). This program offers interactive and engaging activities designed to excite students and their families about STEM. Family Science Night combines science learning and family bonding within the school community. In order to hold this event, we MUST provide a minimum of 18 adult volunteers in a single volunteer shift to support the event between the hours of 5:15 pm – 7:45 pm. The Children’s Science Center will assign volunteers to appropriate activities/stations immediately before the event.

Class Placement for Next Year

Dear Eagle View Families,

As the 2023-2024 school year is coming to a close, Eagle View staff is starting to prepare for the 2024-2025 school year. Class placement is one of the most important tasks that our staff engage in during the last weeks of school. When it comes to class placements, we consider many things, such as heterogeneous groupings, balancing academic abilities, and maximizing the support our resource teachers can provide students.

If you feel that there is pertinent information to support your child’s success, please complete this optional Parent Input Form by Friday, May 17th. Please note that this system is not intended for families to request specific teachers. Your child’s current classroom teacher, specialists, counselors, and administrators will collaborate to make well-balanced classes. We value and consider your insight into your child’s learning needs.

Sincerely,

KJ An

Principal

This Week at Eagle View... May 6-10 is Teacher Appreciation Week!

Believe in Believe! Next week is all about showing our teachers and staff  some Lasso-style kindness with easy and inexpensive ideas inspired by everyone's favorite mustached coach.

The Schedule:

  • Monday - Make 'em Smile Monday: Channel Ted's signature optimism! Bring in a handwritten card, letter, poem, or drawing.
  • Tuesday - Treat Yourself Tuesday: Teachers deserve a break! Bring a  healthy snack  and uplifting notes for your teacher!  Students can decorate simple paper bags with "Believe" messages.
  • Wednesday - Cheer Banners Wednesday: Let's hear some cheers!  Encourage students to create colorful banners with messages of thanks or cheers. They can use the school colors (yellow and blue) and include phrases that are encouraging and supportive.
  • Thursday - Coach’s Corner Flower Pots Thursday: Bring a small flower pots or flowers for your teacher!
  • Friday - Biscuits with the Boss! Friday: Just like Ted brings biscuits to his boss, students can bake or bring in cookies or biscuits for their teachers.

Bonus Ideas:

  • Kindness is Our Game Plan: Throughout the week, encourage students to perform random acts of kindness for their classmates and teachers. This could be holding doors, picking up dropped items, or offering words of encouragement.

Remember: The most important part is showing our teachers and staff that we care and appreciate them. These simple gestures will go a long way in replicating Ted Lasso's signature kindness and making our teachers feel like champions!

🩹 Required Immunizations for Rising 7th and 12th Graders

Immunizations are required for all students entering 7th and 12th grades this fall. Visit the FCPS immunization webpage to learn about the required vaccines.  Caregivers should ask their private healthcare provider or the health department to review their student's immunization record to ensure that their student has received these required immunizations.

It is important to schedule immunizations early in the summer, as seventh-grade students must submit documentation of the Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines before they begin school in August. Twelfth-grade students must submit documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine. Get more information on all student immunization requirements.

💪 Let's Finish the School Year Strong!

  • Check your child’s attendance record.

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

We had an amazing week here at Eagle View Elementary School for our second annual Stress Less Laugh More Week! Our students had a blast participating in fun spirit week activities and enjoying various stress-relieving events. From creating nature mandalas to engaging with therapy animals such as alpacas, baby goats, and baby bunnies, our students had a truly unforgettable experience. Special shoutout to Ms. Morency for leading our nature mandala activity and providing our students with a beautiful outdoor learning opportunity.

In addition, Trader Joe's in Fairfax generously provided us with a $50 voucher for flowers, which we supplemented to have our staff to create their own bouquet to take home. This activity was a wonderful way to engage in stress-less activity and foster creativity.

We had the pleasure of hosting the peace runners as a special assembly to wrap up our wellness week. Please check out our Instagram (@eagleviewfcps) posts for pictures and videos!   The peace runners promote peace, unity, and harmony through a global torch relay. You can learn more about their mission at peacerun.org.

As we look ahead to next week, we want to remind families that SOLs will be starting for students in 3rd-6th grade. Please ensure that your child arrives to school on time, gets plenty of rest, and eats a healthy breakfast to fuel their minds for testing. We have full confidence in our students and know that they will do their best!

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we can help our students thrive and succeed. Have a wonderful weekend!

Warm regards,

Sincerely,

KJ An

Principal

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

I hope this message finds you well and filled with the same excitement and pride I have for our wonderful Eagle View Elementary community. We've had an eventful week filled with enriching experiences and meaningful connections.

Firstly, on Tuesday, our dynamic team of teachers and staff represented our school at the FCPS Portrait of a Graduate (POG) Conference. Their exceptional presentation of learning at the POG POL Conference on Tuesday was a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the incredible support from our staff and families. It was truly a proud moment for me as the principal of Eagle View, and I am eagerly looking forward to witnessing the growth of our students as they continue to develop their POG skills.

On another note, we were honored to have a very special visitor at Eagle View Elementary School this week. Ms. Bernadette Bascom, the founder and Creative Director of the Music Project, graced us with her presence on Monday. The Music Project holds a unique vision focusing on helping students build communication and music skills, all while emphasizing inclusivity in music. Ms. Bascom's visit was not only inspiring but also a wonderful opportunity for our students to engage with the power of music and its ability to foster connection and creativity.

I was especially proud to see our students' artwork displayed at our pyramid art show this week. Their creativity and talent were showcased beautifully, highlighting the artistic growth and expression that we value at Eagle View Elementary.

Looking ahead, I am excited to announce that next week is our second annual Stress Less, Laugh More Week! Social and Emotional Learning Screener Results Coming Soon

FCPS students in grades 3-12 took the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener during March, providing updated information on skills such as achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships with adults and peers, and making responsible decisions. The SEL Screener also helps students evaluate their school community’s efforts to make them feel valued, included, and supported.

In late April, individual student SEL Screener results will be available for families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent via postal mail.

Get more information about the screener on the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage. For support in understanding your individual student’s results or ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or contact your student’ teacher and our counselors, Mrs. Moody or Ms. Krepinevich.

Solar Eclipse Viewing Update

A solar eclipse is happening on April 8, 2024. It's a rare and exciting astronomical phenomenon and one that requires important safety reminders. Looking directly at the sun, even during an eclipse, can permanently damage your eyes.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Don't look at the sun without approved eyewear. This applies to students and staff, and we encourage you to reinforce this at home.
  • Regular sunglasses are not good enough. The NASA website has more information about eye safety.
  • Eclipse timing: The eclipse starts around 2:04 p.m., peaks at 3:20 p.m. (which coincides with dismissal for some students), and ends around 4:32 p.m. Please remind your child to be especially vigilant about eye safety during dismissal. If you have concerns about your child walking or riding the bus home, please arrange for alternative transportation.

For more details, visit the FCPS Solar Eclipse webpage.

🏫 Advertised Budget Focuses on Schools and Instruction

Investing in excellence means putting our dollars where it matters most — schools and instruction. Nearly 93% of FCPS full-time staff work directly in our schools. And nearly 86% of FCPS’ Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Advertised Budget is dedicated to instructional programs across all grade levels, including special education.

Only 5% of the advertised budget is for general support and central administration. Central office administrators represent only 0.8% of total full-time positions.

For more details on FCPS’ advertised budget, view budget documents, including the FY 2025 Budget Book.

Check out the Budget Calendar for important dates in the budget process as well as opportunities for the community to provide feedback.

New Regulation on Meditation and Silent Reflection Spaces

FCPS has developed Regulation 1502 to ensure all students and staff have reasonable accommodation and access to meditation and silent reflection spaces within the school division. The regulation provides guidance for schools on how to manage requests for silent reflection during instructional and non-instructional time, and for students to leave school for religious activities.

These spaces are for individuals to engage in prayer, meditation, or silent reflection, inclusive of their religious or non-religious beliefs. Parents/caregivers must provide written permission for students requesting to miss instructional time on a regular basis. Families are encouraged to contact their child’s teacher regarding accommodations. View Regulation 1502. Visit FCPS' Guidelines for Religious Activities webpage for more information.

🤧 Updated COVID Recommendations

In accordance with the updated Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) respiratory virus guidance, FCPS and the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) have updated school COVID-19 recommendations.

The COVID-19 isolation period of five days is no longer recommended

New respiratory virus guidance applies to respiratory viral illnesses, including COVID-19, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Students who have symptoms of, test positive for, or have been diagnosed with a respiratory virus may return to school when the student is fever-free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication; AND the student’s symptoms have improved or resolved.

Students should follow additional precautions as outlined per the CDC upon resumption of normal activities.

Should I Send My Child to School?

Please refer to the chart on this attendance webpage if your child is experiencing symptoms or illnesses, and you are unsure if they should go to school.

Thank you for helping keep our students and staff healthy.

This Week's Trait: PERSPECTIVE

Dear Families,

This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Perspective. Perspective means you appreciate when people see things in different ways. You have the ability to understand the world from multiple points of view.

Perspective is also referred to as wisdom and is distinct from intelligence. People with this strength are sought out for advice because they see the big picture and can make sense of the world’s complexity. This strength of perspective gives individuals the ability to see to the heart of difficult matters and achieve clarity. Most importantly, they are honest and behave in an ethically consistent manner.

Perspective helps an individual make sense of the world. It provides clarity on what matters and what does not. Being able to see things from multiple angles helps individuals remain calm and learn from mistakes; they are typically highly self-aware. Reflecting on their own feelings, thoughts, and motives helps them understand and empathize with other people. These individuals are strong listeners and ask great questions. Individuals with the strength of perspective help their group get through difficult or uncertain circumstances because they’re poised and can identify opportunities for success.

To practice and encourage the character strength of perspective with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.

Have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,

Eagle View P2 Team

Ms. Krepinevich as our part time counselor for the remainder of 23-24 school year

Dear Eagle View Families,

I hope this message finds you all in good health and high spirits. I am writing to provide an update regarding our efforts to fill the part-time counselor vacancy that arose following Ms. Turner's departure from Eagle View in December.

Since then, we have engaged in extensive discussions and conducted multiple searches to find the perfect candidate to join our team, unfortunately without success. However, I am pleased to share some positive news with you all.

Mary Beth Krepinevich, our esteemed family liaison, has generously agreed to step into the role of part-time counselor for the remainder of this school year. Ms. Krepinevich brings with her a wealth of experience as a licensed social worker, making her exceptionally qualified for this position.

I am delighted to announce that Ms. Krepinevich will begin her duties as our part-time counselor starting tomorrow, March 18th. She will be available to provide counseling services on Mondays through Wednesdays while continuing her responsibilities as our family liaison on Thursdays and Fridays.

This appointment represents a significant step forward in ensuring the continued provision of support and services to our students and families. Please join me in extending a warm congratulations to Mrs. Krepinevich as she takes on a role as our part-time counselor at Eagle View.

Best Regards,

KJ An

Principal

If you haven’t already, please take FCPS’ Family Engagement Survey today! Survey results will help us to better recognize, understand, respect, and address family strengths and needs in our school community. Survey topics include:

  • Welcoming environment
  • Communication
  • Student success
  • Advocacy
  • Family and school partnerships
  • Community partnerships

The survey is available in 10 languages. Please check your email for a message from FCPS partner, K12 Insight, with a link to the survey or access the survey now. Your voice matters!

Fairfax County’s Funding of the FCPS Budget

The average amount of funds transferred from Fairfax County to FCPS was 52.6% of county disbursements from fiscal years (FY) 2019-2023. It dipped to 51.6% in FY 2024. The County’s budget proposal for next year would transfer 51.4% of total disbursements.

If the county were to return to transferring 52.6% to FCPS for the upcoming year, that would equate to $63 million more to invest in excellence.

🩹 Measles Is Preventable

Measles is making headlines as the number of cases nationwide has topped 40, with three confirmed cases in people living in or traveling through the National Capital Region.

The good news is that measles is preventable through vaccination! Vaccines help teach the immune system how to defend against germs, helping to build up natural defenses. Give your child the best protection against measles with two doses of the Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine. Visit the Fairfax County Health Department website to find out more about measles.

Extended Hours at Immunization Clinics

To help parents/caregivers obtain vaccinations for their children, the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) will offer immunization clinics with extended hours:

Parents/caregivers should make an appointment but a limited number of walk-ins will be accepted. Please call 703-246-7100 to schedule an appointment.

Learn more about vaccinating your child and find community resources to support their health and well-being.

Note: All students enrolling in public and private schools in Virginia are required to be adequately immunized per the Code of Virginia.

🏅 Nominations Open for First Class Award for Inclusion

The Advisory Committee for Students with Disabilities (ACSD) is seeking nominations for the First Class Awards. The awards are presented annually to educators, administrators, and students who support, design, and/or implement inclusion activities that result in positive outcomes for students. This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

I hope this message finds you all well and thriving. As we continue to navigate through this school year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the incredible success of our second annual Music and Arts Night. The evening was a vibrant celebration of creativity, community, and the arts, showcasing the immense talent within our Eagle View family.

The display of students' artwork was nothing short of incredible. It was a testament to the creativity, dedication, and passion our students possess. Seeing the cafeteria transformed into a dynamic folk dance floor, with students, families, and staff members all participating, was a heartwarming sight. It brought me immense joy to witness the connections being forged between families and our dedicated staff members. These moments underscore the strength and warmth of our Eagle View community.

I would like to extend a special shout-out to our specialists' team - Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Albertson, Ms. Jun, Mr. Walby, Mrs. Cortes, Mr. Niehoff, Mrs. Johnson, and Mrs. Brown. Your commitment, enthusiasm, and hard work played a pivotal role in making our Music and Arts Night a resounding success. Furthermore, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the many staff members who volunteered their time to stay late and ensure the evening was a memorable one.

As we continue to build on the success of our events and programs, your feedback remains invaluable. I want to remind everyone about the Family Engagement Survey. The link to the survey was sent to your emails on March 3 and will remain open through March 22. Your input is crucial as it helps us better understand your needs and how we can enhance our school community.

For those who prefer a paper version of the survey, we have copies available in multiple languages. Please feel free to stop by the main office to pick one up or request one, and we would be more than happy to send it home with your child.

Lastly, Sunday, March 10, at 2 a.m., daylight saving time begins. Don’t forget to move your clocks ahead one hour!

Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our school. Together, we are making Eagle View an exceptional place for our children to learn and grow.

Warmest regards,

KJ An

Principal

✅ Take the Family Engagement Survey!

FCPS’ Family Engagement Survey is now open. Survey partner K12 Insight emailed a link to families on March 3 and again on March 6. Please participate! Your feedback is critical in helping to inform and improve FCPS practices to best support our students.

The survey is available in 10 languages. Parents/caregivers may stop by the front office to fill out a paper survey or complete the survey online. Please check your email for the survey invitation or use this survey link. Get more information on the Family Engagement Survey webpage

SOL Test Schedule

Our spring SOL testing schedule is included below! Please see the schedule to see which days your student will be participating in tests. It is important for students to come to school on time, well rested, with a hearty breakfast. Please contact your child’s teacher if you foresee any conflicts in attendance with these dates.

ST Math March Madness

ST Math March Madness is back!  We encourage our students to spend at least 20 minutes on ST Math each night!  We can't wait to celebrate our ST Math winners at the end of March!

Ramadan

This year, the first full day of Ramadan is Monday, March 11. In Islam, Ramadan is the most sacred month of the year. During this month Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset each day while striving to increase their spirituality, through prayers, charity and good deeds. Read more about Ramadan in National Geographic Kids.

March 11 is an O day. The school calendar recognizes many religious and cultural observances (O days) during the school year. There is school on these days, however tests, quizzes, field trips, graduation, homecoming, or FCPS-scheduled athletic events will not be held on these observance days. See the complete 2022-23 school year calendar.

Throughout the year, as we celebrate and recognize various cultural holidays and observances, families are encouraged to contact Mrs. Krepinevich(our family liaison), Mrs. An(principal), or the child's classroom teacher regarding accommodations, including but not limited to those around lunch, prayer/meditation and silent reflection spaces and times, and instruction.
