VDH Immunization Packets for Rising 7th Grader

As required by the Code of Virginia, parents or legal guardians need to provide proof of immunizations for their child to attend public school. All students entering seventh grade are required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations:

  • Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap) given at age 7 or older.
  • Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) given at age 10 or older.
  • A complete series of 2 doses of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.
  • After reviewing educational materials approved by the Board of Health, the parent or guardian, at the parents/guardians sole discretion, may elect for the child not to receive the HPV vaccine.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with their child’s health care provider now to avoid the rush this summer. If your child does not have a health care provider, please visit the FCPS Immunizations Resource page to find out where to get an immunization.

Please review the Virginia Department of Health Information Packet for more information on rising 7th grade immunization requirements.

📐 Breaking Down the Budget: Supporting Academic Growth and Algebra by Eighth Grade

The FCPS Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Proposed Budget invests in academic growth and excellence for each and every student, which is one of the priorities of the FCPS Strategic Plan

Since the 2023-24 school year, FCPS has seen a 9.5% increase in eighth graders taking Algebra I or more advanced math and a 6.8% increase in fifth graders in advanced math.

Studies show that students who complete algebra in middle school have more opportunities to take advanced math and science courses in high school. This can open up new academic paths for students! Watch a video that shows why eighth grade algebra matters

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

This has been another fantastic week of learning, and I continue to be amazed by the hard work and enthusiasm our students bring each day.

Yesterday, we celebrated the 100th day of school, marking a milestone in our year filled with growth, learning, and fun! It was wonderful to see our students engaged in creative activities that highlighted just how much they have accomplished in these first 100 days.

As a friendly reminder, there will be no school on Monday, February 17th, in observance of Presidents' Day. Enjoy the long weekend!

Also, we invite you to join us for Cocoa with Kids on Friday, February 21st, at 8 AM. This PTA-sponsored event is a great opportunity for parents to bring their children, enjoy some cocoa, and connect with other EV families and staff.  Please note that this is not a drop-off event—all students must be accompanied by an adult. We hope to see you there!

Additionally, our clinical team has shared a wonderful resource for families—a webinar series on "Parenting an Anxious Child." This two-part series is designed to provide parents with strategies and support in navigating childhood anxiety. The first session is on February 21st. Register using this link.

Thank you for your continued support, and have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Breaking Down the Budget: Investing in Our Classrooms

Did you know that more than 85% of FCPS’ budget stays in our classrooms? Currently, 92.5% of FCPS staff are school-based, more than neighboring school districts. We are in the middle of FCPS’ annual budget process, which includes opportunities for you to give feedback. Learn more about the proposed FCPS FY 2026 Proposed Budget and see the budget timeline.

🤧 Protect Yourself and Your Community From the Flu

Fairfax County is experiencing very high levels of influenza (flu) illness. The Fairfax County Health Department reports that visits to emergency departments and urgent care centers for flu-like illness have increased, especially among children, and multiple flu outbreaks have occurred in our community and school settings. Read a letter from the health department

The health department suggests taking the following steps to reduce the spread of flu and other germs:

  • Cover coughs and sneezes. If you must be around others while ill, wearing a mask can help reduce spread.
  • Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizers when soap and water are not available (with supervision for younger children).
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces.

According to the health department, to help prevent or reduce the spread of illness it is important for individuals who are sick to stay home and away from others until symptoms improve and until they have been free of fever for at least 24 hours. Visit this Attendance webpage for guidance on when your child should go to school.

Webinar for Parents with Dr. Jonathan Dalton

We are excited to share a wonderful learning opportunity for our parents on the topic of parenting an anxious child.  This is a two-part series webinar.  Register here

🐻 It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!

Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Fairfax County public schools typically conduct kindergarten registration events, including orientation, between January and April. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us prepare and ensure we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

Families should prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms on the FCPS kindergarten registration webpage. FCPS offers support and resources for all families to help with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For support in other languages, visit the kindergarten registration webpage.

✨ A strong start is Goal 1 of the 2023-30 Strategic Plan

Learn More About How Your Child Feels at School

The Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener will be administered to students in grades 3-12 in March. Students use the SEL Screener twice a year to share their perspectives on how well their school and community help them develop the skills they need to succeed. The screener works by asking questions or presenting statements that students can think about and respond to. This gives students a way to share how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.

After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families who do not have a ParentVUE account. For more information, including SEL Screener questions and opt-out information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

We had a fantastic week at Eagle View!  Our students shined at the Strings Winter Concert, delivering an outstanding performance. Kudos to all our talented musicians and a huge thank you to Mrs. Brown for her dedication and hard work in preparing them for such a wonderful event!

Congratulations to Amistad – The House of Friendship for earning the most points in January! Their flag will be proudly displayed in the lobby throughout February. Keep up the teamwork and spirit!

A quick reminder—attendance matters! It’s important that students are in school every day, ready to learn. This week, we celebrated 10 raffle winners from our Perfect 10 Attendance Challenge with a special ice cream party with the principal. We’re so proud of our students’ efforts, and now we’re raising the bar! Our next challenge will be Perfect 15, encouraging even more dedication to daily attendance.

We also took time to celebrate National School Counseling Week and recognize our incredible school counselors, Ms. Comer and Ms. Miller. They do so much for our students, and we are truly lucky to have them as part of our school community!

Thank you for your continued support, and let’s make it another great week!

Sincerely,

KJ An

Starting Monday, May 19, students who have not provided proof of immunization may not be allowed to attend school. You can check your child’s immunization status and submit updated immunization information by accessing SIS ParentVUE

Please check with your healthcare provider to make sure your child is up to date on required immunizations for the 2024-25 school year. FCPS Proposed Budget Progress

FCPS Proposed Budget Progress

The Fairfax County School Board discussed the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 Proposed Budget at their work session on February 4. They discussed details regarding student enrollment and investments in students requiring additional support, market comparison data for surrounding school divisions, and an update on progress toward achieving the Baldrige Award for Performance Excellence. Baldrige is a framework used to assess and improve organizational performance across various sectors, including education.

The School Board also held a public hearing on the FY 2026 Proposed Budget on Tuesday, February 4, where they invited the community to share their feedback on the budget.

On Tuesday, February 18, the Fairfax County executive will present the county’s Advertised Budget, and the Fairfax County School Board will hold a work session on the FCPS FY 2026 Proposed Budget. View FCPS’ Budget Development Calendar.

Breaking Down the Budget

More than 85% of the budget is dedicated to instruction and reflects the needs of our community’s young people in response to the changing world around us. Budget priorities include providing competitive compensation for all employees, including a 7% salary increase for all staff. The majority of the budget increase is dedicated to that proposed 7% pay increase.

Our families want their children in high-quality schools with the best teachers who provide rigorous academic experiences. We must provide competitive compensation to attract and retain our outstanding educators, administrators, and other school-based and operational staff dedicated to the success of our students.

The proposed 7% salary increase would likely move FCPS to the highest starting salary for teachers with a master's degree among our neighboring counties and greatly improve our recruitment efforts amidst an ongoing teacher shortage. Visit the Budget webpage for more information.

🗺️ Dual Language Immersion Lottery Registration

Countywide lottery registration for the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program for first graders in the 2025-26 school year is open through Thursday, February 13, at 4 p.m. Current pre-K students may apply for the kindergarten immersion program through Thursday, March 6, at 4 p.m.

Dual Language Immersion is available in French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.

Interested parents/caregivers may attend an informational meeting at the school site. Visit the Dual Language Immersion Program registration page for a list of meetings by language offered

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

Our hearts go out to all those affected by Wednesday night’s airplane crash. Events like this remind us of the importance of coming together as a community to support one another. Please know that if any of our students need support processing this news, our counselors, along with our very caring and dedicated clinical team, are here to help. This team includes not just our counselors but also our social workers, school psychologist, and other professionals who are all committed to the well-being of our students.

On a brighter note, there are many wonderful things happening here at Eagle View! On Tuesday, we had another successful Coffee with the Principal with a great turnout. It was wonderful to connect with families and share more about our EV House System, which continues to build a strong sense of belonging and school spirit.

We also closed out a successful second quarter on Tuesday, and today marks the second day of third quarter! I want to take a moment to thank our dedicated teachers and staff for their continued hard work and commitment to helping our students learn and grow. And of course, a big congratulations to our students for their efforts and perseverance! Lastly, thank you to our families for your continued partnership and support.

Today, we celebrated our students during our quarterly P2 Assembly, recognizing those who have demonstrated important positivity traits such as Kindness, Self-Control, Gratitude, Optimism, Bravery, Prudence, and Perseverance. We are so proud of the way our students embody these values each and every day!

Looking ahead, we are excited for our Strings Winter Concert next Thursday at 7 PM. We hope you’ll join us for a wonderful evening of music and celebration.

Thank you for your continued support in making Eagle View such a special place!

Sincerely,

KJ An

The proposed budget reflects the needs of and FCPS’ commitments to Fairfax County students, families, and community members. It focuses on competitive compensation, including a 7.0% salary increase for all staff to recruit and retain our outstanding educators, administrators, and other school-based and operational staff dedicated to the success of our students; investing in students who require additional support; and continuing multiyear initiatives such as inclusive preschool and safety and security updates.

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

What a cold week it has been, but the chilly temperatures didn’t stop our amazing students from arriving at school with big smiles and eager minds!

On Thursday, we enjoyed a fantastic winter band and chorus concert. Kudos to our talented students for their outstanding performances, and a big thank you to our wonderful music teachers—Mrs. Albertson, Mr. Walby, and Mrs. Johnson—for their hard work and dedication. It was truly a memorable evening!

We also had the pleasure of celebrating our 4th-grade students with donuts for earning 1st place in attendance for December. Way to go, 4th grade—keep up the great work!

A few important reminders for next week:

  • The Body Safety Program is scheduled to take place at Eagle View next week. If you would like to opt your child out of this program, please make sure to send in a signed opt-out form no later than January 27th.
  • Tuesday, January 28th, is Coffee with the Principal Day at 8:30 a.m. This month, we’ll be sharing information about our House System at Eagle View. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other families and learn more about how we foster community and belonging at our school.
  • Wednesday, January 29th, is a teacher workday, and there will be no school for students.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Have a warm and restful weekend!

January Spirit Week #4

We are excited to start the new year together and are kicking things off with a fun and spirited week! This whole month, our students will have the opportunity to participate in themed days to bring some extra excitement to the classroom. School spirit days serve to foster a sense of community and pride within the school by bringing students and staff together through shared experiences, promoting a positive and vibrant school culture. They also create opportunities for expression, engagement, and celebration of achievements, contributing to a memorable and cohesive educational environment. Participation in school spirit days is optional.

📈 Virginia’s Student Assessment Summary for Families

This month, families of students who took any Standards of Learning (SOL) test between school years 2015-16 and 2023-24 will receive a Student Assessment Summary Report. The report shows a student’s state percentile ranking for each test. This allows families to see how their child ranked compared to all Virginia students who took the same test that year.

Reports are available now in SIS ParentVUE Documents. They will be distributed by schools this month to students whose families do not have ParentVUE access. Learn how to access ParentVUE

The report is intended to help families reflect on how their child performed across all tested subjects over the years. Our schools and staff are committed to working with families to support every student to succeed at their highest potential. Learn more about student assessments in FCPS.

SR&R and Cell Phone Policy Survey

All FCPS families and middle and high school students have received an invitation to participate in a survey about FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities (SR&R), cell phone policy, and cell phone storage options. The survey will be available through Monday, February 3. Please take a few moments to share your feedback and help FCPS make informed, inclusive decisions for all of our schools!

What Families Can Do to Fight Drug Misuse

FCPS is committed to raising awareness about the opioid epidemic with our educators, parents/caregivers, and students. Together, we can help ensure our students thrive.

What can families do?

  • Show you disapprove of underage drinking and other drug misuse. More than 80% of young people ages 10-18 say their parents are the leading influence on their decision whether to drink.
  • Show you care about your child’s health, wellness, and success.
  • Show you are a good source of information about alcohol and other drugs. Find helpful resources on the FCPS Opioid Awareness webpage
  • Pay attention to your child and discourage risky behaviors.
  • Build your child’s skills and strategies for avoiding drinking and drug use. Talk with your child about what they would do if faced with a decision about alcohol and drugs, such as texting a code word to a family member or practicing how they will say, “No thanks.”

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

What a great week it has been here at Eagle View! Our classrooms were buzzing with energy and learning, and it’s always such a joy to see our students growing and thriving together.

As we head into next week, I want to remind you that Monday is a student holiday as we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Inauguration Day.

We also have some exciting events coming up next week:

  • Coffee with the Principal: Join us next Wednesday (1/22) morning at 8:30 AM to learn more about our House System and how it helps motivate student learning while fostering a stronger sense of belonging in our Eagle View community.
  • Winter Band & Chorus Concert: We are thrilled to welcome families next Thursday (1/23) evening for our Winter Band and Chorus Concert. Our talented students have been working diligently to prepare for this special event, and we can’t wait to share their hard work and music with you.

Thank you for all the ways you support our school—it truly makes a difference. I hope to see you next week at one (or both!) of these events.

Have a wonderful three-day weekend, and I look forward to welcoming back our students on Tuesday morning!

Sincerely,

KJ An

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Welcome back and Happy New Year! It was wonderful to see our students back in the building today after our extended winter break. We hope everyone had a chance to enjoy some snow fun and relaxation during the time off.

We are excited to share that we are partnering with the Family Services of Fairfax County Government to offer the Body Safe Program to our students. This program is designed to teach children important lessons about personal safety, including boundaries, respectful behavior, and how to recognize and report unsafe situations. It empowers students to understand their rights over their bodies, identify trusted adults, and gain age-appropriate tools for navigating uncomfortable situations.

We invite all families to join us for a Virtual Parent Night on Tuesday, January 14, to learn more about the program before it’s offered to students. A letter with more details will be sent home soon, and families will have the option to opt out if they do not wish for their child to participate. We strongly encourage you to attend the Virtual Parent Night on January 14th at 6 PM to better understand the program and its benefits.

For more information about the Body Safe Program, you can also visit: Body Safety Program.

Wishing you all a great weekend!

Respectfully,

KJ An

Principal

Social and Emotional Learning Screener Results Coming Soon

One of the ways FCPS supports the mental wellness of all students is through the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener. In October, students in grades 3-12 took this screener, which gives information about their skills such as achieving goals, handling emotions, building relationships with adults and peers, and making good choices.

The screener also helps students evaluate their school community’s efforts to make them feel valued, included, and supported. Screener data is used to create learning, experiences, and environments for students to succeed.

In early December, families will be able to view student SEL Screener results in SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be sent by mail.

Learn more about the screener on the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage. For help understanding your child’s results or ideas to support them at home, review the Family Guide or contact us.

Register for ParentVUELearn how to activate your ParentVUE account, so you can easily access your child’s results and other helpful information.

❄️ Preparing for Winter Weather

Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather-related closing decisions are made.

FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated

Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange for childcare if needed.

Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities

We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories which may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. See the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.

If you need assistance supplying your child with cold-weather clothing, please call Fairfax County's Coordinated Services Planning at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health care.

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Greetings Eagle View Families!

This week, our school community came together to honor and celebrate our Veterans and active service members at our Veterans Day assembly. We were thrilled to welcome 15 veterans and service members who joined us for this special occasion, allowing us to express our gratitude for their dedication and service. Thank you, veterans, for all you have done and continue to do for our country.

We also wrapped up our Operation Candy Drive, where our students worked together to collect an impressive 175 pounds of candy! This sweet donation will be sent to our troops abroad as a token of our appreciation and to bring some joy to their day. Congratulations to Amistad, our winning House, and to all of our students for their hard work and generosity.

Looking ahead, we are eagerly anticipating our Thanksgiving Lunch next week! This is always a heartwarming event, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Please refer to the Thanksgiving Luncheon schedule for your child’s class to make sure you’re able to join us.

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Greetings Eagle View Families!

We kicked off the second quarter with excitement and pride by celebrating 359 of our students for their incredible commitment to attendance through our “Perfect 10” program! At Eagle View, we’re dedicated to reducing chronic absenteeism and fostering a culture of consistent attendance. This means encouraging every student to be here, every day. Through our "Perfect 10" program, we look forward to recognizing more and more students who achieve ten consecutive days of perfect attendance without tardies. The 359 students who were recognized for Perfect 10 are entered for a chance to win a special Cotton Candy party with me—a fun way to show our appreciation for their dedication! The next “Perfect 10” recognition will be on November 20th, so let's keep up the fantastic attendance!

This is a friendly reminder that November 11th is a student holiday.  We will be holding our annual Veteran’s Day celebration on November 12th.  For the first time, we would like to invite any families who want to join us.  The ceremony will begin at 9:45 AM.   So, if you would like to join us at the schoolwide assembly, please sign in at the front office as a visitor and be seated in the gym by 9:40 AM at the latest.

As we begin this second quarter, I look forward to continued growth and success for all our students. Let’s make this quarter a memorable one filled with learning, progress, and achievement!

Warm regards,

KJ An

Principal

Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available online in SIS ParentVUE. If you have not already filled out the form online, we will provide paper forms in November. Please be sure to return them by Friday, November 17

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important, because information from this survey resulted in more than $4 million in funding last year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

Please watch this video and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page for more information.

Need to Register for ParentVUE?

Learn how to activate your SIS ParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey.

Technical support for using ParentVUE or completing the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. Select SISParent in the Application dropdown menu and type Federal Impact Aid Survey under Issue Description. Or, call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).

📍 Boundary Review Community Meetings Start This Month

As a reminder, FCPS has started the process of reviewing school boundaries across the division. This important work will help the district better support student population growth, changes in school capacity, and evolving community needs. Community input is vital to this process. With that in mind, FCPS, in partnership with Thru Consulting, will be hosting a series of community meetings in each of FCPS’ six regions. Participants are encouraged to share their thoughts, ask questions, and learn more about the boundary review process.

Please visit FCPS’ website for meeting dates, locations, and other information. Sign up for the School Boundary Review newsletter for updates.

IEP Palooza and Community Resource Fair

Parents/caregivers, school staff, and students over the age of 14 are invited to attend an interactive event celebrating the individualized education program (IEP) process. The IEP Palooza and Community Resource Fair will take place on Saturday, November 16, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at Jackson Middle School.

The event is sponsored by Fairfax County Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA). Activities include simulated IEP meetings, break-out sessions on the various parts of an IEP, and a resource fair to learn more about community supports. Register in advance

Tutoring Resources for Families

Is your family looking for resources to help support your child’s academic success? FCPS’ Family Resource Center (FRC) maintains a list of district employees who hold a valid Virginia teaching credential and who are available to be hired as a tutor by parents. FRC maintains this list, but families are responsible for contacting and working directly with tutors. This list is not “approved” by FCPS and is only meant as a resource.

FCPS also partners with Varsity Tutors to provide students and families with extra resources for learning. Every student can take advantage of Varsity Tutors' services at no cost, including weekly live online classes, on demand 24/7 chat tutoring, essay editing, study resources such as recorded content, practice problems, and diagnostic tests.

FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan Goal 3: Academic Growth and Excellence, reminds us of our commitment to supporting each and every student and helping them meet or exceed high academic standards.
