This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Greetings Eagle View Families!

This week, our school community came together to honor and celebrate our Veterans and active service members at our Veterans Day assembly. We were thrilled to welcome 15 veterans and service members who joined us for this special occasion, allowing us to express our gratitude for their dedication and service. Thank you, veterans, for all you have done and continue to do for our country.

We also wrapped up our Operation Candy Drive, where our students worked together to collect an impressive 175 pounds of candy! This sweet donation will be sent to our troops abroad as a token of our appreciation and to bring some joy to their day. Congratulations to Amistad, our winning House, and to all of our students for their hard work and generosity.

Looking ahead, we are eagerly anticipating our Thanksgiving Lunch next week! This is always a heartwarming event, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Please refer to the Thanksgiving Luncheon schedule for your child’s class to make sure you’re able to join us.

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Greetings Eagle View Families!

We kicked off the second quarter with excitement and pride by celebrating 359 of our students for their incredible commitment to attendance through our “Perfect 10” program! At Eagle View, we’re dedicated to reducing chronic absenteeism and fostering a culture of consistent attendance. This means encouraging every student to be here, every day. Through our "Perfect 10" program, we look forward to recognizing more and more students who achieve ten consecutive days of perfect attendance without tardies. The 359 students who were recognized for Perfect 10 are entered for a chance to win a special Cotton Candy party with me—a fun way to show our appreciation for their dedication! The next “Perfect 10” recognition will be on November 20th, so let's keep up the fantastic attendance!

This is a friendly reminder that November 11th is a student holiday.  We will be holding our annual Veteran’s Day celebration on November 12th.  For the first time, we would like to invite any families who want to join us.  The ceremony will begin at 9:45 AM.   So, if you would like to join us at the schoolwide assembly, please sign in at the front office as a visitor and be seated in the gym by 9:40 AM at the latest.

As we begin this second quarter, I look forward to continued growth and success for all our students. Let’s make this quarter a memorable one filled with learning, progress, and achievement!

Warm regards,

KJ An

Return Your Federal Impact Aid Survey

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available online in SIS ParentVUE. If you have not already filled out the form online, we will provide paper forms in November. Please be sure to return them by Friday, November 17

Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important, because information from this survey resulted in more than $4 million in funding last year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

Please watch this video and visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page for more information.

Need to Register for ParentVUE?

Learn how to activate your SIS ParentVUE account, so you can easily submit your survey.

Technical support for using ParentVUE or completing the survey online is available by submitting a Parent Support Request ticket. Select SISParent in the Application dropdown menu and type Federal Impact Aid Survey under Issue Description. Or, call the Parent Technology Help Desk at 833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS).

📍 Boundary Review Community Meetings Start This Month

As a reminder, FCPS has started the process of reviewing school boundaries across the division. This important work will help the district better support student population growth, changes in school capacity, and evolving community needs. Community input is vital to this process. With that in mind, FCPS, in partnership with Thru Consulting, will be hosting a series of community meetings in each of FCPS’ six regions. Participants are encouraged to share their thoughts, ask questions, and learn more about the boundary review process.

Please visit FCPS’ website for meeting dates, locations, and other information. Sign up for the School Boundary Review newsletter for updates.

IEP Palooza and Community Resource Fair

Parents/caregivers, school staff, and students over the age of 14 are invited to attend an interactive event celebrating the individualized education program (IEP) process. The IEP Palooza and Community Resource Fair will take place on Saturday, November 16, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at Jackson Middle School.

The event is sponsored by Fairfax County Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA). Activities include simulated IEP meetings, break-out sessions on the various parts of an IEP, and a resource fair to learn more about community supports. Register in advance

Tutoring Resources for Families

Is your family looking for resources to help support your child’s academic success? FCPS’ Family Resource Center (FRC) maintains a list of district employees who hold a valid Virginia teaching credential and who are available to be hired as a tutor by parents. FRC maintains this list, but families are responsible for contacting and working directly with tutors. This list is not “approved” by FCPS and is only meant as a resource.

FCPS also partners with Varsity Tutors to provide students and families with extra resources for learning. Every student can take advantage of Varsity Tutors' services at no cost, including weekly live online classes, on demand 24/7 chat tutoring, essay editing, study resources such as recorded content, practice problems, and diagnostic tests.

FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan Goal 3: Academic Growth and Excellence, reminds us of our commitment to supporting each and every student and helping them meet or exceed high academic standards.

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

As we wrap up a successful first quarter, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for your partnership and support. Your involvement is a vital part of what makes our school community thrive, and we couldn't do it without you!

Please remember that November 4th and 5th are student holidays. We look forward to welcoming our students back on November 6th. Additionally, we are excited to honor our veterans and active military members with a special Veteran's Day Celebration on November 12th. If you or a family member have served or are currently serving, we would be honored to have you join us. Kindly fill out this Google form by November 6th to let us know you'll be attending.

Congratulations to our students who achieved Perfect 10 attendance from October 18-31! We will be recognizing these dedicated students on November 6th.

Lastly, want to wish a very Happy Diwali to all who celebrate. May this festival of lights bring joy and prosperity to you and your loved ones.

Thank you again for your continued support and partnership. Together, we make Eagle View a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Warm regards,

KJ An
Principal

Got left over Halloween Candy? Donate them to Operation Shoebox Candy Drive!

Eagle View's SCA is proud to present Operation Shoebox: Candy Drive to collect candy for our troops deployed abroad.  We are turning this into a friendly competition.  Help your house win this candy drive!  The winning house will be announced at our Veteran's Day Celebration on November 12th!

Elementary School Language Arts Grading Updates

Our teachers have been hard at work teaching with the new Language Arts curriculum, and we are excited to help all of our students become strong readers and writers! This year we also have new assessments, which is how we check if your student needs extra help with reading and writing, and new Standards of Learning (SOLs).

Because of these changes, we are now teaching all of the Language Arts skills your child needs to know (and checking if they need extra help) throughout the whole school year, instead of different skills each quarter. While these skills will be new to your child in the beginning of the year, the goal is for your child to grow strong in all of their new skills by the end of the year.

This means that when you get your child’s progress report next month, it might look different. Your child’s teacher will give you more information on the new progress reporting and how we’re making sure your child is getting any extra help they might need. You can also find more information on FCPS’ Grading and Reporting webpage.

We will also have new ways for you to help your child practice their reading and writing skills at home. These resources are coming soon!

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

It’s hard to believe that the first quarter is coming to an end! This week, we hosted a Coffee with the Principal in partnership with our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher and Reading Specialist. Parents joined us to learn about the new language arts curriculum and the continuum of services in advanced academics. It was wonderful seeing so many families engaged and connecting with each other. Our next Coffee with the Principal will be in November, where we’ll explore the “HOUSE SYSTEM.” We encourage you to join us and learn about how our house system fosters teamwork and a sense of belonging at Eagle View.

This week, we also celebrated 10 students whose names were drawn for Ice Cream with the Principal as a part of our Perfect 10 attendance award. These students enjoyed ice cream with me as a reward for their dedication to being at school on time for 10 consecutive days. We look forward to continuing to celebrate more students for Perfect 10 attendance this Thursday, October 31st. We are proud of all our hardworking eagles and their commitment to showing up ready to learn each day!

Here are some reminders for the coming week:

  • Monday, October 28th, will be a three-hour early release. If you indicated that your child will stay until 4 PM, there is no change to their dismissal time; otherwise, dismissal will be at 1 PM. Please plan to meet Kindergarten students at the bus stop three hours earlier. The early release does not affect our preschool program, as Preschool and PAC students will remain until 4 PM, and AM/PM ECCB classes will follow their regular schedule. Buses will run as usual at 1 PM and 4 PM for students needing the later pick-up, and SACC will be open for afternoon students, closing at the regular time.
  • Thursday, October 31st is the last day of the first quarter, with students being dismissed two hours early at 2:00 PM.
  • Friday, November 1st will be a holiday. School is closed on this day.

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to an engaging second quarter!

Sincerely,

KJ An

Principal

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Greetings Eagle View Families,

We kicked off this week with a delicious lunch generously prepared by one of our fabulous Eagle View families, Mr. and Mrs. Cromwell! We are so grateful for their kindness and the amazing meal they provided.

We also celebrated Digital Citizenship Week with a fantastic spirit week. It was truly amazing to see so many students and staff dressed up in orange for Unity Day to stand against online bullying. The participation and spirit throughout the week were truly inspiring!

Thank you for your continued support of the Boosterthon! Today, our students wrapped up our two-week-long fundraiser with a thrilling Zombie Run, and it was a blast! We couldn’t have done it without the incredible help of our parent volunteers. You all made this fundraiser a huge success—thank you!

Speaking of success, don’t miss out on our new student acknowledgment system, the Perfect 10! Students with perfect attendance for ten consecutive days starting October 1st were celebrated this week. Their names are entered to win an exciting ice cream party with the principal—who wouldn’t want that? Remember, every day counts! Consistent attendance not only helps students stay on track academically but also gives them the chance to participate in exciting incentives like our Perfect 10 ice cream party. We can’t wait to celebrate even more students in the next round of Perfect 10!

Lastly, on Monday, October 21st, join us for Coffee with Principal at 8:15 AM in the library!  This is a joint meeting with our Reading Specialist, Mrs. Anthony, and Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, Mrs. Sharpes.   You will learn about the continuum of services in Advanced Academics Program and the new Language Arts curriculum and how you can help your child with Reading at home.   Childcare will be provided.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Warm regards,

KJ An

Principal

Attendance Matters! Celebrating small successes at Eagle View!

At Eagle View, we are committed to reducing chronic absenteeism and fostering a culture of consistent attendance. We encourage all students to come to school every day, and we're excited to recognize students for their efforts with our "Perfect 10" program.  On October 17th, we celebrated 354 students who achieved ten consecutive days of perfect attendance without tardies. These 354 students’ names have been entered for a chance to win a special ice cream party with our principal, Mrs. An.  The next “Perfect 10” recognition is October 31st.

Consistent attendance is key to academic success, as students who attend school regularly are more likely to stay on track with their learning and build positive habits for the future.  Remember, every day counts!

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

The two-week fundraiser will end with our exciting Zombie Fun Run on October 18th, and we hope to see you there!

Last Wednesday was Custodian Appreciation Day, and in true Eagle View fashion, we celebrated our wonderful custodians all week this week, showing them how much we appreciate their hard work and dedication to keeping our school clean and safe.

We also celebrated our 5th grade students this week for earning 1st place for best attendance! Attendance matters, and it’s so important that our students come to school each day. Let's keep up the great work!

Mark your calendars for October 21st at 8:15 AM for Coffee with the Principal. I’ll be joined by Mrs. Sharpes, our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher, and Mrs. Anthony, our Reading Specialist. Celebrating the Power of School Lunches

Multiple studies show that school lunches are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school lunches consume more fruit, vegetables, and fiber than their peers.

This School Lunch Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. Also, new menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.

Want to know what’s for breakfast or lunch? Nutrition Services now has printable menus

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

We’ve had another very busy and fun week at Eagle View! One of the highlights was our SCA Officer Induction ceremony, where we celebrated the next generation of student leaders. We are incredibly proud of our new officers and excited to see them in action this year. Special thanks to Ms. Rodriguez and Ms. Rell for their support of our students.

We are also thrilled to announce the launch of the House System at Eagle View! This exciting new initiative fosters a strong sense of community and belonging for students and staff alike. The House System encourages cross-grade connections, positive peer support, and character development through friendly competition. Each student is assigned to one of four Houses, where they remain throughout their time at Eagle View.

Our four Houses are:

  • Amistad – The House of Friendship
  • Reveur – The House of Dreamers
  • Altruismo – The House of Givers
  • Isibindi – The House of Courage

Sorting days were a blast as students spun the wheel to discover their House, greeted by cheers and excitement. Today, we held our first schoolwide pep rally where all K-6 students met others in their House, and we can’t wait to see how our students grow through this new program. Be on the lookout for a House System Family Guide coming home soon to help you engage with this exciting initiative.

Special thanks to Ms. Morency, our Behavior Resource Teacher, for leading the sorting assemblies for all grade levels and getting the students excited about their Houses!

We are also excited to inform you that a schoolwide point system is still in the works and will be rolled out soon. Once in place, students will be able to earn points for their House through positive behavior, academic accomplishments, and competition participation. Stay tuned for more details!

Lastly, we regret to announce that our Fall Family Picnic was canceled due to rain throughout the week. We are working on an alternate date and will keep you updated. If you prepaid for pizza, refunds will be issued by PTA.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

KJ An

Principal

🗓️ Attendance Tip: Scheduling Family Trips or Events

Good attendance is an important life skill that will help students succeed in school and beyond.

When planning trips or family events, refer to the FCPS calendar and try to use weekends and school holidays. Every day of learning is a day toward success. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered chronically absent.

When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or another reason, you must report the absence.

Watch this video with tips on understanding the FCPS school year calendar and visit the Attendance webpage for additional information. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

Advanced Academic Program at Eagle View

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) offers a continuum of services for elementary students to meet their current academic needs. The continuum of services supports the two main goals of the Advanced Academic Programs Office:

  • Talent Development
  • Meeting the Needs of the Advanced Learner

Access to Rigor: Grades K-6 – All students receive talent development lessons with critical and creative thinking strategies and AAP curriculum lessons.

Subject Specific Advanced Differentiation: Grades K-6 – Identified students receive AAP curriculum lessons in the general education setting in areas of academic strength.

Part-Time Services: Grades 3-6 – Identified students receive AAP curriculum lessons in more than one academic content area. The Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART) leads these lessons. Programming has increased depth and complexity in several content areas.

Full-Time Services: Grades 3-8 –Identified students receive AAP curriculum lessons full-time. Programming has increased depth, complexity, and pace in all academic content areas.

For more detailed information, including important dates, please see the Fall AAP Newsletter:

Please click on the links below for the Advanced Academics Programs Fall Newsletter containing important information about Advanced Academic Programs.

The fall deadline is October 15th, 2024 for students new to Fairfax County to be screened for full-time services.  Contact Nicole Sharpes [email protected] for more information.

CogAT One-Time Retake Request Deadline

Students in grades 3-6 are eligible for a one-time retake of one of the ability tests: CogAT or NNAT. If parents would like their child to retake either of these tests, they must submit their request in writing to our testing coordinator, Ms. Blanchard. Please note that this is a one-time opportunity for students. If you're interested or have any questions, please contact the school office for more information.   All requests must be received by October 3rd.

Please use these sentence stems to request a one-time retake:

✨ The 2023-30 Strategic Plan — Goal 4: Equitable Access to Opportunities

FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan sets five main goals to create positive change in the division. These goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts.

The fourth goal ensures all students have the same access to opportunities, no matter what school they attend. This includes academics and other programs that inspire and engage students and allow them to explore their passions and talents. See how Goal 4 is being put into practice

Gun Safety and Safe Gun Storage

Providing students and staff with a safe educational environment remains our priority. Sadly, gun violence continues to impact schools and communities across our nation.

In FCPS, lessons on gun safety are built into our curriculum. It is critical that parents and guardians talk to their children about the importance of gun safety and safe gun storage in their homes, and in any home they may visit.

The FCPS website has gun safety resources as well as information about safety and security practices at schools. See Dr. Reid’s recent letter to the community for more resources.

Safely Store Firearms and Medications

The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board has a limited supply of free locking medication boxes and trigger locks that fit a wide variety of firearms. Visit the Lock and Talk website to learn more.

This Week at Eagle View... Principal's Message

Dear Eagle View Families,

It’s been another exciting week of learning and community building at Eagle View! We kicked off the week with the Asha-Jyothi Fun Run and 5K at Fairfax Corner. A huge thank you to all of the staff and families who came out to participate and support our school! With 53 registrations, Eagle View proudly came in 3rd place overall for the number of participants. Your support means the world to us!

Otherwise, your child will be dismissed at 1 PM. Please make sure to adjust your schedule accordingly and meet your Kindergarten students at the bus stop 3 hours earlier than usual on Monday, September 23rd. Additionally, AM and PM ECCB classes will continue on their usual schedule.

Looking ahead, we are thrilled for our second annual Back-to-School Fall Picnic hosted by our wonderful PTA next Friday, September 27th. You can pre-order pizza at a discounted rate or purchase it on-site. Of course, you’re also welcome to bring your own food! The most important part of this event is coming together to strengthen our school community. We hope to see you there!

Students to Be Surveyed on Social-Emotional Learning

FCPS is committed to supporting the mental wellness of all students. The Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener helps our students share their perspectives on how their schools and communities support them and help them develop the skills they need to succeed.

The screener is offered to all students in grades 3 through 12 in the fall and spring. It addresses skills such as achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships with adults and peers, and making responsible decisions. Students also share how successful their school and community are at making them feel valued, included, and supported. Screener data is used to plan programming for the division, schools, and individual students.

After each screening, results will be available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families who don’t have a ParentVUE account. For more information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.

Families who wish to opt their child out may do so by completing the opt-out form in the Annual Notice packet or SIS ParentVUE. For more information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage or contact our front office.

Please note that the SEL Screener is not the same as the anonymous Fairfax County Youth Survey, which will take place later this fall.

Supporting Your Child’s Mental Health

Children go through a lot of changes, and it can be hard to tell if their behavior is developmentally appropriate or if they could benefit from mental health support. It’s important to talk to your child and pay attention to their actions, especially these warning signs:

  • Increased irritability, hyperactivity, energy, and/or aggressive behavior.
  • Excessive sadness, hopelessness, or worries.
  • Loss of appetite, or significant weight gain or loss.
  • Lack of sleep or too much sleep.
  • A decline in grades, school avoidance, or attendance concerns.
  • Alcohol or drug use.
  • Withdrawal from activities and/or friends and family.
  • Thoughts of harming themselves or others.

If you notice any of these warning signs or feel your child may be experiencing a mental health challenge, help is available. Please contact Ms. Heather Miller and Ms. Regan Milton, our school psychologists, Ms. Casey Comerand Ms. Madolyn Miller, our school counselors, or Ms. Denise Marcone and Ms. Laura Dailey, our school social workers, to discuss your concerns and identify resources. Find additional ways to support your child’s wellness

If you or someone you care about is experiencing a mental health crisis such as thoughts of harming themselves or others, please take action right away. Call 988, go to the nearest emergency room, or contact the Sharon Bulova Center for Community Health Emergency Services at 703-573-5679.

✨ The 2023-30 Strategic Plan — Goal 3: Academic Growth and Excellence

FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan sets five main goals to create positive change in the division. These goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts.

Our third goal is for all students to achieve academic growth and excellence. We want our students to have the academic skills to be successful. For example, making sure they are readers by third grade and taking courses that challenge them throughout their education will help prepare them for lifelong success. See how Goal 3 is being put into practice

We All Belong at School

Each one of us is unique, and every student matters. If your student is having a difficult time attending class, please speak with a trusted adult at school.
